Rosy Barbs
Rosy barbs are almost always pink (or rosy) in color, but if you would like to distinguish the males from the females, the males have a spec of black on the top of the fins. Rosy barbs like the lighting to be low, and do not want or need much attention. They do like to have companions, though, and love to swim in packs, so be sure to purchase several should you want to add them to your aquarium.
For breeding, you will want to have the females harassed by the males or they will not breed. Once they pair up to breed, they will begin diving to the bottom of the tank. If breeding occurs and eggs are laid, wait 24 hours, and you should see hatching occur. At this point, we recommend trying to protect the young because the Rosy Barb will eat its own young, and other fish in the same tank may also harm the newly hatched barbs.
