Not everyone has a place to put their aquarium. ESpecially when it comes to medium to large size fish tanks, perfectly balanced and sturdy support is crucial. While some may choose to build their own stands, a much easier and more convenient stand for most is to simply buy one. Ready to buy stands come in a wide range of varieties. There are so many different kinds that there is a niche market just for aquarium stands called aquarium furniture. And as long as you get a stand that will keep your aquarium steady there really is nothing else to consider but your taste.

The most common types of fish tank stands are:

Metal: These are usually simple frames and are the cheapest alternative. Metal stands are very sturdy, durable and extremely lightweight. One thing to remember though is that metal rusts, so make sure you always keep it dry. Specially the legs, where rust usually is formed.

Wood: Pine, oak, cherry, maple, and almost any other kind of wooden finish you can think of. Some also offer customization for a higher price. And although there are those that are simply wooden bases most wooden stands also have cabinets or drawers under them for storage. Some have bookcases and still others have the strangest stuff.
